I might get my poor knowledge of song lyrics and hilarious inability to hold a tune from my mom. We just aren't singers. But, hopeful my warbling has some sweetness to it for the kids just because I am their mother just as I always thought my mom fumbling through songs was comforting. One of the songs that she used to repeat over and over again was from the classic movie, Love Story with Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal. I guess it was huge in the Philippines, and it has always remained one of her favorites. I have her, "A time for us ... someday they'll be ..." version of the song permanently recorded in my memory.
The story is about the love between a Harvard law student from an incredibly privileged and extremely snobbish family and a Radcliffe graduate who was raised by her baker father. Their love is displayed with playful teasing, honesty, respect and intense devotion even when met with disapproval. It has a pretty famous line of, "Love means never having to say you're sorry," ... which doesn't happen in our relationship. Overall, I'd highly recommend watching it, just be ready to bawl. It's pretty cleansing for me to watch.
Her red dress when she meets his parents is still my favorite dress in any movie I've ever seen. Someday I'll have a similar one, and a dream will be made. It was a silly thought, but I always imagined wearing a red dress to meet my in-laws. In reality, I didn't and I am extremely thankful that my in-laws are the opposite of hers, but I did wear a red dress to my Harrington bridal shower just for Love Story kicks.
Have you seen it? If you are in need of a good cry, definitely watch it.
Disclosure: I am part of the Netflix #StreamTeam so I will be writing one post a month about movies and shows that have made me happy to have in our family queue. To be totally forthcoming, I have been compensated with a streaming device and a one year streaming subscription to Netflix, but this is a service that I have used at minimum four times a week for the past four years (and at many points in the timeline, everyday) so you can say that I am definitely excited to be partnering with them.
